Failure to Launch

Director: Tom Dey

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Bates, Zooey Deschanel, Justin Bartha

Screening: 2006-03-21

Do you miss Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) from
Sex and the City? We do too. And we certainly are not the
only ones. Judging by the two movies roles SJP has taken on since
that seminal TV series ended, it seems as if movie directors and
casting agents are keen on resurrecting that stylish, spunky, sassy
creature we call Carrie Bradshaw.

In Failure to Launch, SJP plays a witty and sexy emotional
growth guru whose job is to help hapless parents get their overgrown
sons out of their houses. One such son is Matthew McConaughey, a
boat salesman who still lives with his parents at the ripe age of
35.

Now SJP's usual tactic is to seduce that overgrown son, make him
fall in love, and get him to propose marriage. Then, when he moves
out of his parents?house and into their own love nest, she dumps
him, takes the money and run. But as you can guess in this case,
SJP falls for Matthew too. .

Failure to Launch is calculated to please, amuse and titillate.
It dishes out the usual romantic comedy scenarios, and the usual
battle-of-the-sexes jokes as Matthew and his super-dude friends
(Justin Bartha and Bradley Cooper) battle SJP and her girlfriend
(indie goddess Zooey Deschanel). There is nothing new or inventive
about the proceedings. But if you are easily pleased, amused and
titillated, then buy a ticket and prepare for Take-Off.
