Dog lovers might enjoy Eight Below because it features
so many lovable dogs. To everyone else, this movie is dog food.
Paul Walker plays a guide and sled driver in Antartica who loves
his dogs.
Paul is hired to take a scientist (Bruce Greenwood) to a remote
location where a meteorite from Mars has landed. Unfortunately,
they encounter a nasty storm. The men are forced to be lifted to
safety by a helicopter, leaving the poor dogs to fend for themselves.
Back in the United States, guilt-ridden Paul tries to find a way
to go back to Antartica to rescue his beloved canines. Meanwhile,
his dogs try to survive the cruel winds and low temperatures on
their own. For dog lovers, Eight Below may be a heartwarming
and emotional-charged viewing experience.
For everyone else, this film is relentlessly sentimental, manipulative
and predictable drivel — like a lot of other Disney pictures.
Lesbian viewers might want to watch out for a strangely-named actress
Moon Bloodgood, who plays Paul's girlfriend and whose hotness can
make all of Antartica melt.
