Dance of the Dragon

Release: 2008-04-29

We've seen many ballroom dancing movies before, including Strictly Ballroom, Shall We Dance, Mad Hot Ballroom and Take the Lead. So what's to differentiate Dance of the Dragon from the pack besides the fact that it's made in Singapore and stars Fann Wong? Not a lot really...

The directorial debut of multiple award-winning cinematographer John Radel (who was behind the lens of Australian gay short film and Flickerfest best documentary winner The Prodigal Son), Dance of the Dragon is a simple predictable film about a Korean country boy (sexy Jang Hyuk) who's always dreamed of being a professional ballroom dancer. He goes to Singapore to take lessons from a former champion (Fann Wong) who retired prematurely because of a weak knee. Of course, of course, they fall in love.

So what's standing in the way of their romance? The film needs a villain. And so we have glaring, nose-flaring hunk Jason Scott-Lee (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story) as Fann's jealous boyfriend. There you have the ingredients for a final showdown.
