Chinese social network Weibo reverses its ban on lesbian page after protests

The protesters published more than 600,000 posts using the hashtag 'I am les'.

Online protests broke out on Chinese social media after a page featuring lesbian content was shut down on 14 April. The platform announced earlier this month it would ban a range of ‘rule-breaking’ comics, games and videos, including ‘pornographic, violent and homosexual’ content.

After the backlash from users, Weibo backtracked on the decision on 15 April, restoring the page and announcing that they will now solely ban violent and pornographic content.
