How to dress for success

Five tips on how to bring your A-game.

If you’re feeling like you’re in a bit of a career rut, then freshening up your wardrobe for work could be the kick-start that you need.
Research shows that if you look like you mean business, then you’re more likely to get that promotion or nail that job interview.
Try these easy steps as a starting-point:
Tailor your wardrobe to your workplace
Don’t dress down to the lowest common denominator, but if everyone in your office is wearing suits then you need to be playing in that same ball-park — you want to stand out for the right reasons.
Bling up the cufflinks
It’s a bit of a throw-back to the 80s and 90s, but if you’re in a suit-and-tie kind of environment, then French-cuff shirts with some killer cufflinks will definitely catch the eye of anyone that you’re wanting to impress.
Experiment with a waist-coat
This is not a challenge to be taken lightly — done badly this can go horribly wrong. Waist-coats work best if you’ve got a bit of height, otherwise they can leave you looking square and boxy. Done well, a sharp pair of trousers, a crisp white shirt, and a snugly fitting waist-coat can look amazing.
Get your shoes polished
I hate polishing shoes. I deliberately try and avoid having to wear shoes that need to be polished, but there’s some occasions that demand proper shoes. If you’re going to wear proper shoes, get them polished by an expert — people will notice.
Get your teeth whitened
It sounds vain, but it works — everyone remembers a winning smile. If you know that your teeth are clean and sparkling, you’ll feel more confident, you’ll look more relaxed, and everyone will be hanging on your every word.
