HHS gives medical groups ten business days to answer on trans youth care

The US health department wants current positions, guidance updates and timelines from six organisations. The Endocrine Society has previously defended decisions made by clinicians, patients and families.

US health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has asked six medical organisations to put their positions on transgender care for minors in writing. Letters published on 14 October give them ten business days to respond.

The Department of Health and Human Services also wants details of any updates or corrections to their guidance, and a timetable for further changes. HHS describes this as a final request following an inquiry in December 2025.

One recipient, the Endocrine Society, set out its position in comments dated 17 February 2026 on a separate Medicaid and CHIP funding proposal. It said qualified clinicians should make treatment decisions with patients and families, using scientific evidence and taking account of each patient's needs and values.
