Buenos Aires’ Asterisco LGBTQ+ film festival is scheduled to begin on 22 October, with stories of care, work and friendship running through its programme. The 13th edition continues until 1 November.
At MALBA, Mar López Zapata’s Siemprevivas is listed for 22 October at 10pm, local time. The museum’s synopsis follows Laura, a 65-year-old trans woman who wants to return to cabaret work after years spent caring for her mother. Friends who are still performing accompany her as she considers that return, against the backdrop of Barcelona’s Raval neighbourhood.
There’s an everyday question in that premise: how much room do people have to start again after caring for someone else?
Another venue, Universidad del Cine, is offering free screenings on 23, 26 and 30 October, subject to room capacity. Its 26 October programme includes Hijas de la Noche, directed by Henrique Arruda and Sylara Silvério. The university describes six veteran performers from Recife revisiting their pasts and sharing memories on camera.
Free entry applies to the university sessions; MALBA lists ticket sales for its programme. Times and admission arrangements should be checked with the relevant venue.
