Heroes of HIV, LGBT rights and community health work were among 10 people and organisations honoured at the 2019 Asia Pacific HERO Awards gala in Bangkok last Friday.

They come from Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and elsewhere to see for themselves what it is like to be homosexual yet feel secure, to see gay couples hold hands.

UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific and former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach is set to co-host this year’s Asia Pacific HERO Awards gala in Bangkok which will honour a diverse and inspirational mix of activists, allies and organisations from across Asia and the Pacific.
More than 200,000 people took to the streets of Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, on Saturday for what organisers said was Asia’s largest-ever LGBT pride parade.
