Bruce Willis seems only too aware of how much he has aged. So in
16 Blocks, he puts his weary appearance and hang-dog face
to good use, as he plays a burnt-out cop named Jack with a bad reputation
for getting drunk and cutting corners.
Jack is assigned to do a simple job of driving a thief (Mos Def)
sixteen blocks from the police's holding cell to the courthouse.
Along the way, Jack makes an unscheduled stop for scotch in Chinatown.
But this is when trouble begins, as there are people who want the
thief dead before he gives his testimony in court.
Directed by Richard Donner (of Lethal Weapon fame), the
film is an enjoyable if somewhat conventional action flick. Bruce
Willis is very well-cast in the role. Although his star power has
long been on the wane, 16 Blocks sees him deliver his best
and most authentic performance in years. A must-see for Bruce Willis
fans.
