Asia’s largest LGBTI festival set to paint Hong Kong pink!

Hong Kong's LGBTI festival celebrating openness, acceptance and love in all forms, shapes and sizes kicks off on October 10

The annual event was founded in 2010 by Pink Alliance, a non-profit organisation that aims to facilitate cooperation and unity in the LGBTI community.

This year, Hong Kong’s premier LGBTI magazine of art, style and culture, PLUG, and LGBTI sports and fitness group Out in HK have been appointed as co-organisers of Pink Season. These two groups with distinctly different characteristics demonstrate the diversity of the LGBTI community itself, and the synergy between them is expected to inject new energy to the festival.

Programmes covered by Pink Season range from art exhibitions and theatre to sports and adventures to beach party and evening social gatherings. Some of them are affiliated events put together by different LGBTI or LGBTI-friendly organisations or businesses, while others are produced by the Pink Season committee. Both LGBTI people and their family and friends are invited.

This year’s festivities will officially commence at the Pink Season Opening Party at the KEE Club in collaboration with annual art, fashion and music event Avant G’art and HKLGFF (Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival). Highlighted events in Pink Season 2015 include:

Art and culture –

A Language of Their Own — A searing, frank, and sometimes humorous stage drama about the lives of four gay men living in America, written by Singaporean playwright Chay Yew

Rainbow Connection: A History of LGBTI Theatre—An evening filled with stories, songs and dance from a very colourful past and even more fruitful characters

Sexual Outlaws, Rebels and Renegades: Hidden Heroes of the Gay American Experience—A provocative evening of documentary stories about unconventional and unsung queer mavericks of the past

Two+one: Contemporary Dance Showcase—An eclectic range of movement narratives presented by Hong Kong’s emerging choreographers and dance video artists to explore gender, sexuality and identity

Sports and adventures –

Out in HK Urban Race—Teams of brave explorers challenge themselves physically, mentally and intellectually to solve clues and complete tasks around the city before racing to the finishing line

Out in HK Sports Day—An action packed day of badminton, tennis, sea kayaking, archery, football, volleyball, Zumba, yoga and more – there is something for everyone

Out in the Open—A Sunday outdoor party for LGBTI people and their supporters at one of Hong Kong’s scenic beaches
