Satrang is excited and honored that D'Lo (www.dlocokid.com) is holding the third annual writer's workshop at the Southern California Library! Spots are limited so please email your application to D'Lo by March 5th, 2011!
The reasons behind this annual workshop:
According to the Needs Assessment Survey carried out by Satrang and SAN, there are roughly 300,000 South Asians living in Southern California. Taking into account the theory that the LGBTQIQ community takes up 10% of any given population, there are, 30,000 LGBTQIQ South Asians living in Southern California.
As we have witnessed in the findings of the Needs Assessment Survey, many of our community are immigrants who are closeted or in isolation because there is no place for them to be both South Asian and out about their sexuality/gender orientation. We come to realize that because of this, many LGBTQIQ South Asians suffer from mental stress and depression and feel that they cannot seek help that addresses their feelings.
Satrang’s mission is to provide a safe space for South Asians who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, intersex and questioning. Much of Satrang’s programming centers around providing an alternative space which our members call “another home”.
No prior experience is necessary; just be open and willing to create something new. Writers and non-writers welcome. The workshop will be held in four sessions, culminating in a public reading at a later date where workshop participants can choose to share their work or not.

Tired of games. Tired of short-lived romances. Tired of looking for Mr Right, but only finding Mr. Right Now. I would like to find someone to DATE - you know, going out to dinner, movies, and generally getting to know him before taking the friendship further. What will others find interesting about me? Hmmmm... Maybe that I was born here in the PNW, grew up on the east coast, moved back here to the PNW, but I don't like seafood... Or maybe that I enjoy the outdoors, but I work in buidlings with no windows....
