rosie o'donnell comes out in new memoir

US talk show host Rosie O'Donnell who is rumoured to be a lesbian for years may finally come out in her forthcoming autobiography.

US comedian and talk show host Rosie O'Donnell is rumoured to have come out as a lesbian in her forthcoming memoir, Find Me, due April 23, reports New York Daily News.

A source told the paper: "She talks about her relationships with women and having a girl break her heart in college--and other relationships with women."

Another reader notes, "She comes out, but she's very matter-of-fact about it. She may be thinking that if she doesn't make a big deal out of it, she minimizes the backlash from gay activists who might say, 'Where the hell have you been?'"

While rumours have surrounded O'Donnell for years, the former actress has never made an open admission about her sexuality. The closest she's got to coming out was to thank the woman believed to be her girlfriend, Kelli Carpenter, declaring: "I love you!" whilst accepting a trophy at last year's Daytime Emmy Awards.

The actress who has four adopted children will officially leave her television programme, The Rosie O'Donnell Show in May.
