The Dim Sum Dollies are back for revenge from Aug 5

The Revenge of the Dim Sum Dollies! will run from August 5 at the Esplanade Theatre as part of the first ever Nation.04 Arts programme.

An unusual concoction? Not when we're talking about Selena Tan, Pam Oei and Emma Yong back as The Dim Sum Dollies, and sizzling into the Esplanade Theatre with a brand new show this August - The Revenge of the Dim Sum Dollies!

It's a natural progression, considering the amazing success of The Dim Sum Dollies, their collective persona, in the last two years.

In 2002, Selena Tan was commissioned to write a cabaret about Singaporean women for the opening festival of the Esplanade. With pals Pam Oei and Emma Yong on board, Cabaret: A Single Woman, a musical satire poking fun at all things "woman", played to sold out performances and rave reviews, sending the 1000 or so people who came to watch rolling down the aisles laughing, and salivating for more.

In 2003, Ivan Heng came on board as director, repackaged the three divas as The Dim Sum Dollies and with material from A Single Woman, the show was expanded, polished, anchored deeper into the Singapore context and moved to a larger theatre - Jubilee Hall. The Dim Sum Dollies in Steaming! once again played to rave reviews. But this time, more than 9000 Singaporeans rolled down the aisles laughing, and still salivated for more.

This year, The Dim Sum Dollies are back! The Revenge of the Dim Sum Dollies! is a brand new show, with all new material and all new songs, and is charging full steam ahead into The Esplanade Theatre from 5 August 2004!

Selena Tan, Pam Oei and Emma Yong are supported by the crme de la crme of the local theatre industry - Glen Goei (director), Tan Kheng Hua (producer), Elaine Chan (composer), Richard Tan (choreographer), Ivan Heng (dramaturg), Lim Yu-Beng (lighting design), Frederick Lee (costume design), MAC (makeup design), Ashley Lim (hair design), Tan Ju Meng (set design) and once again, the multi-talented Selena Tan completes the line-up as writer and lyricist.

Audiences can expect more of the same satirical bite-sized segments poking fun at Singapore Life, taken to the extreme for strong comedic impact, generously littered with catchy music and lyrics, and garnished with clever choreography. What happens when three Tai Tais decide to form an opposition party? Or when Megawati (Selena Tan), Arroyo (Pam) and Aun San Suu Kyi (Emma) have a tete-a-tete? Join three old friends as they drive to Malaysia on a mid-life crisis jaunt! And listen in as three birds in the Jurong Bird Park sing about the Singaporeans that come to visit them.

All this and more, in The Revenge of the Dim Sum Dollies! It'll be the happiest night out for a long time to come! Opens 5 August 2004 for a limited run only. Tickets from SISTIC!
