McCafé Taiwan releases heartwarming coming-out advertisement

Religious fundamentalists are calling for a boycott of McDonald’s after the release of a tender advertisement in which a man comes out to his father.

McDonald’s in Taiwan have released an advertisement entitled Acceptance. It is the latest in their More Warmth in Conversations campaign by McCafé which started in January.

The video shows a on hand his father a coffee cup with a note which reads "I like boys." The father then gets up and appears to storm away from the table.

As the son sits at the table in despair, his father later returns and writes three characters on the coffee cup which make the sentence read "I accept that you like boys."

Since its release on Friday the Facebook video has gained 2.5 million views and nearly 8500 shares.

Religious groups have called for a boycott of the fast food chain in response. Chang Shou-yi, secretary general of the Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family said:

"Now, even if you want to just take a leak at a McDonald's bathroom, you can't help but feel polluted," according to Shanghaiist.

In a statement to the press, Chang wrote that the Alliance "does not approve of the ideological stand behind the advertisement" and accused McDonald's of "openly promoting gay issues."

"Because McDonald's is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior," the statement added. As such, the Alliance "opposes all advertising that miseducate children on sexual behavior," and "rebukes and boycotts all enterprises that are polluting the next generation."

Watch the advertisement below. We challenge you not to be touched!

These religious nut cases now wage war against BigMac and next would be Fried Chicken(KFC) because they get involved with gay campaign.
How pathetic these bunches are.

The world would be much better off without the likes of Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family. Just one of many groups of self appointed bigots that tarnish society and hide behind spurious interpretations of the Bible to justify their existence.
I nice ad, even though I don't understand the language.

The world will be a better place when we can eat our junk food without having to look at their ugly fundie religious faces. Please boycott!

When will religions get the message that this IS the 21st century and that there is NO space on this planet for their ANCIENT thinking. If they'd get their acts together and accept that their 'marketing techniqies' are totally outdated then it may be possible that Love & Compassion might more easily spread throughout the world.

Lord, what have they done to Thy word?
God is love, God is Compassion, God is Tolerance: how can they talk as they do? Boys: go into love, and don't waste your time in listenning religious which want only to submissive you to their thoughts to nip you! Free yourself! Lenin was right for once: "Religions are the opium of the people" !

It's a beautiful ad and I applaud McDonald's (I don't believe I've ever used that phrase before) for sending such a loving message knowing that there would be a backlash. These are important steps in opening eyes and creating dialogue. There will always be opposition to same-sex love, but the acceptance of same continues to grow worldwide. O! The times they are a-changing.

What's up with the religious community?!?!?!! Aren't they supposed to be warm and fuzzy when it comes to supporting people. Turn the other cheek sort of thing?
Religions around the world really do show themselves as anal retentive hippocrates with no logical thinking. Their approach to everything is, "I am right and everybody else is wrong".
Get it together people! Get your heads out of the sand and start being what you should strive to be; kind and understanding to one other.

But we all know it's not good or healthy to shag around with multiple partners?

It's a cute ad but a tad unrealistic.

Wonderful ad - I was certainly moved by it. Well done McD and another nail in the coffin for religious bigots.

Well done McDonalds. The world needs more ads like this from more big multi national companies. There is way too much hatred from many religious groups in the world......shame on them.
