Appointed to one of the most powerful positions in the cabinet of the Federal Government is Penny Wong - she's the new Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Who is Penny Wong?
Born in the Malaysian state of Sabah. Wong's family moved to Australia in 1976. At that time, Wong was eight years old. The family settled in Adelaide.
Wong studied law and arts at the university of Adelaide, before beginning a career in the trade union movement.
Wong was elected to the Senate in 2001, representing the Labor Party.
During her years in parliament, Wong has held a range of roles. For the past six years, she has been the Shadow Foreign Minister.
As the newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Albanese administration, there's no shortage of issues demanding Wong's attention.
Wong lives in Adelaide with her partner and their daughters.
