Kiah Stokes helps Valkyries move within one win of WNBA title

Golden State beat Atlanta 64–55 at Chase Center to take a 3–2 lead in the Finals.

Kiah Stokes hit three three-pointers as the Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 64–55 in San Francisco on Monday, 26 October, taking a 3–2 lead in the WNBA Finals.

Stokes and Veronica Burton scored 13 points each at Chase Center. Stokes also blocked three shots, while Burton had four blocks. Tiffany Hayes and Cecilia Zandalasini added 12 points apiece, according to the Valkyries’ game report.

Golden State led just 25–22 at halftime. Its advantage came from making Atlanta pay for mistakes: the Valkyries scored 21 points from 17 Dream turnovers, while Atlanta managed six points from Golden State’s nine turnovers.

Stokes and Gabby Williams have both spoken publicly about being gay, telling reporters “We’re gays!” after Golden State’s Pride Night game in June.

Game 6 is in Atlanta on Thursday, 29 October, at 12.30pm Eastern time. For readers in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei, that’s 12.30am on Friday, 30 October. Golden State can clinch the title; an Atlanta win would force Game 7.
