Millions

Director: Danny Boyle

Starring: Alexander Etel, Lewis McGibbon, James Nesbitt

Screening: 2005-04-26

Millions is a story told from a kid's point of view. But
it's so smart, stylish and satisfying that just about anyone will
enjoy — no, looove — this movie.

Alexander Etel plays 7-year-old Damian whose mother has passed
away, leaving him behind with his father and brother. He finds solace
in reading about the lives of Christian saints, and sometimes imagines
them visiting him.

One day, a large bag filled with money falls off a train and lands
on top of Damian. He accepts it as a gift from God and proceeds
to give away the money to needy folks.

Though the basic storyline seems simple, Millions is actually
a rich and multi-layered story that brims with ideas, style and
humour. At the heart of the story is an examination of what money
means to each one of us.

Yet, the movie isn't messagey or didactic. Instead, it weaves its
themes through an entirely delightful and magical story that will
leave you smiling long after the lights go up.

Easily one of the best films of the year.
