The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Director: Garth Jennings

Starring: Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Mos Def, Stephen Fry

Screening: 2005-05-31

If you were born in the mid-1980s or after, you may be unfamiliar
with the popular sci-fi book and BBC radio series The Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy
written by Douglas Adams. The books had
become famous in the early 1980s for their wry humour and imagination.

Douglas died of heart attack four years ago. But he must be smiling
in his grave now, for the film adaptation is nothing short of lark.

It stars Martin Freeman (the sweet office drone in BBC's The
Office
) as an Englishman who is rescued by his alien friend
(Mos Def) just before Earth is demolished by other aliens to make
way for an inter-galatic bypass.

Now homeless, he embarks on a hitchhiking adventure in space, meeting
many bizarre creatures and majestic characters along the way.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is filled with the
sort of gentle humour and small off-tangent jokes that the British
are famous for. So if you're a fan of dry wit and sophisticated
gags, this movie will charm your socks off.
