By now, most high-brow movie-goers have become familiar with the
name Kim Ki-Duk, the South Korean maverick who brought you such
sublime, contemplative films as 3-Iron and Spring, Summer,
Fall, Winter?And Spring.

His 12th film to date tells the story of an old man who lives in
his fishing boat with a teenage girl whom he "found?when she was
little. Over the years, he has fallen in love with her and plans
to marry her soon.

To make a living, the old man rents out places in his boat for
amateur fishermen. One day, a handsome young man climbs onboard
and his attractiveness threatens to destroy the pure love between
the old man and the girl.

As with his past films, Kim Ki-Duk explores the essence and enigma
of love within an abstract narrative. The lovers never speak to
each other, but their gestures and expressions are enough to convey
their thoughts. The result is a delicate love story that should
send some fans into rapture, and spawn some new fans. But others
may find his themes and style repetitive, preferring to explore
the works of newer directors.
