Just Like Heaven

Director: Mark Waters

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Mark Ruffalo, Dina Waters

Screening: 2005-11-08

Here's a romantic movie that doesn't reinvent the
wheel in any way - but as far as wheels go, Just Like
Heaven
must have been made by Michelin. It is slick,
confident and efficiently-directed by Mark Waters
(Mean Girls). Add to that the well-oiled charms of its
star Reese Witherspoon, and you have yourself 101 minutes of pure and uncomplicated entertainment.

Reese plays a woman who had recently died in an
accident. Mark Ruffalo plays a man who moves into her
vacant house after her death. Unaware that she is
dead, Reese's spirit continues to roam among the
fabulous furniture of the house. She scares the shit
out of Mark at first, but gradually he falls in love
with her.

Is this logical? Is this possible? Don't ask questions
- simply believe. Just as you believed that E.T. could
phone home, Yoda could master the Force but not
English grammar, and Patrick Swayze could make love
with Demi Moore's spirit in Whoopi Goldberg's body,
you can believe this too.

Just Like Heaven is precisely engineered and
calculated so that you can stomach - nay, swallow
whole - the preposterous storyline. Resistance is
futile.
