As the mumbling Marlboro man in Brokeback Mountain,
Heath Ledger set many gay loins ablaze. So it is only fitting that
he is cast in the role of legendary playboy Casanova, who
set many female loins ablaze in 18th century Venice. Casanova is
also possibly the only heterosexual in history with more lovers
than a gay man.
Directed by Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules), this
light-hearted costume dramedy tells a story of how Casanova stole
many girls' hearts, but loses his own heart to a beautiful cross-dressing
feminist (sexy Sienna Miller). Both Heath and Sienna are terrific
in their roles. On the whole, the film is silly and amusing, a good
antidote to the surplus of serious films playing in our cinemas
now.
