Aquamarine

Director: Elizabeth Allen

Starring: Joann 'Jo Jo' Levesque, Emma Roberts, Sarah Paxton, Jake McDorman

Screening: 2006-04-25

We are guessing that no 13-year-old girl reads our newsletter.
But if you happen to be one, or if you are a 13-year-old girl trapped
in a 45-year-old gay man's body, then Aquamarine is perfect
for you!

It stars teen actresses Emma Roberts (Julia's niece) and Joanna
Levesque as two best friends who find a mermaid (Sara Paxton) in
a swimming pool one morning. The mermaid is fleeing from an arranged
marriage in the sea kingdom. She is searching for true love, preferably
with the hunky lifeguard (Jake McDorman) at the beach.

The girls decide to help the mermaid, and all manner of childish
hilarity and corny jokes ensue. (For instance, when the lifeguard
tells the mermaid "You're hot", she checks to see if she is burning
anywhere.)

It is all very sweet, light and harmless. But if you are not a
13-year-old soul, it can also feel totally brainless.
