The Princess of Nebraska

Director: Wayne Wang

Language: English and Mandarin with English subtitles

Starring: Pamelyn Chee, Li Ling, Brian Danforth

Awards: Opening Film, Singapore International Film Festival

Release: 2008-04-01

The Singapore International Film Festival's open this Friday with The Princess of Nebraska directed by Wayne Wang (of The Joy Luck Club fame), who will be present at the screening together with sexy Singaporean actress Pamelyn Chee.

About the lack of direction and purpose in China's youths after the Tiananmen Square incident, it tells a meandering tale of a Chinese girl Sasha (Ling Li) studying in Nebraska who is impregnated by bisexual boyfriend Yang. She goes to San Francisco to get an abortion but meets a bar hostess X (Pamelyn Chee) whom she flirts and has sex with...

A gritty drama shot in a handheld style, the story at times feels just as aimless as the characters. But LGBT viewers might still want to check out the film because it features a number of queer characters (Sasha's bf is bisexual and has a gay bf, whom Sasha befriends) as well as a full-on lesbian sex scene between Ling Li and Pamelyn Chee.
