Pink Dot Hong Kong returns in 2015 to celebrate "Love is Love"

Family friendly celebration of diversity and love to take place on Sunday 20 September at Hong Kong's Tamar Park.

Following a tremendously successful inaugural event in 2014, Pink Dot Hong Kong announced its return to celebrate diversity under the theme “Love Is Love”.

Co-organised by BigLove Alliance and Pink Alliance, Pink Dot Hong Kong is one of Hong Kong’s most anticipated LGBTI events. A celebration of love for all, young and old, Pink Dot is a free, fun, non-political outdoor concert and carnival organised for allies, families, friends, and colleagues of LGBTI. Pink Dot is an all-inclusive event advocating for diversity and love equality.

In 2014, Pink Dot Hong Kong attracted an estimated 12,000 visitors, closing the event with a free concert featuring Anthony Yiu-ming Wong, Denise Ho, Alex To, C AllStar, Jing Wong, Lil' Ashes, MC Yan, Shine, Ellen Loo, Vincci Cheuk and more.

This year, Pink Dot Hong Kong will include yet more local celebrity ambassadors, with rising Hong Kong film and television star Gregory Wong being announced as the first. Also included is the ‘Covenant of the Rainbow’, a religious organisation initiated by Christian organisations, local churches and theological student fellowships, created to support truly inclusive church communities where all people are welcome, regardless of their race, gender, language, age, occupation, sexual orientation and gender identity, or level of abilities.

The event will be held in the afternoon of Sunday, 20 September on the sprawling green lawns of Tamar Park in Admiralty with picturesque views of the Victoria Harbour. To symbolise love and as a way to create high visual impact, participants will be encouraged to wear pink.

“Following the USA Supreme Court ruling in favour of same-sex marriage, there has been an outpour of global support for love in all its forms. Celebrating this, we are very excited to announce the date of the second Pink Dot in Hong Kong”, says Abby Lee, a Co-Director of the project in 2015. “Last year, the event was a success not only because of the amazing turn-out but also because of the never-seen before diversity of people. We had participants of all ages, sexual orientation, ethnic and social cultural backgrounds, all there for the same thing - supporting the LGBTI community. It was truly breathtaking”.

Wallace Kwok, a fellow Co-Director says, “This year, we have chosen to hold Pink Dot in September when the weather is more pleasant, which will allow us to offer more activities for people to enjoy.  With the Hong Kong skyline as a backdrop to the bright sights, sounds and smells of the event, the iconic view will perfectly frame the fun throughout the day.”

In 2015, the “Love Is Love” theme will be integrated throughout the Pink Dot programme, with an outdoor picnic and fair, multiple art and craft activities for all ages adding colour to the day, as well as a closing concert featuring Anthony Wong and Denise Ho and a league of well-known Hong Kong performers.
