Taiwanese attend New York Gay Pride

LGBT Taiwanese in New York have invited the world to Asia’s biggest pride celebration by renting a float in the American city’s annual gay pride parade.

A group of Taiwanese students in New York proudly put Taiwan’s flourishing LGBT culture on display at the weekend with their own float at the city’s annual LGBT parade.

The float played music by famous Taiwanese pop artists Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) and A-Mei (張惠妹), who are both advocates of LGBT rights.

The Friends of Taiwanese Queers float also featured large signs saying “From Taiwan” and “See Asia’s biggest gay pride parade.”

The 14th Taiwan LGBT Pride Parade will be held in Taipei on Oct. 29. Last year, approximately 80,000 people, including delegations from China and large contingents from Japan, took part in the annual event.

A total of 480 LGBT groups took part in New York’s Sunday parade with an attendance estimated at 32,000. Watch a video of the whole event below:

So, they crowd funded the float in order to advertise their pride event. Well done them. Is this really news tho? Or an opportunity to advertise for free? :)
