Taiwan's capital opens process for same-sex marriage

Taiwan will become the first in Asia to legalise same-sex marriage on 24 May.

On Tuesday (23 April), the government of Taipei opened bookings for same-sex couples to get married and the city government is now taking on-site and telephone bookings for marriage registration, according to the city’s Department of Civil Affairs. Public offices across the city are reported to be standing ready to update identification cards and household certificates from 24 May onwards.

Taiwan’s Department of Home Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior has stated that it will be ready to handle same-sex marriages by 24 May, and the Department said the online registration system would be updated.
