A loving son attempts to keep from his mother the
fact that the German Democratic Republic no longer exists. The devout
communist mother was in a coma when the Berlin Wall fell.
Now, to avoid excitement that might send her into shock, her son
recreates the setting around her that existed in East Berlin during
the year 1989—1990. Director Becker's attention to detail
in both setting and characters makes the film a joy to watch —
rich in visual representation and humour.
