For art film buffs and book lovers, the movie to catch this week
is Comme Un Image, a delightful French comedy set in the
literary scene of Paris. Lightly amusing yet sophisticated, it's
a sharp examination of various characters and their evolving relationships
with one another.
Plump young Lolita is resentful of her famous writer-father, who
neglects her in favour of his new young wife. Meanwhile, Lolita's
teacher (played by the director Agnes Jaoui herself) wants to make
use of Lolita's father to boost the standing of her own writer-husband.
Written by Jaoui and her co-star Jean-Pierre Bacri, the film won
the best screenplay at this year's Cannes Film Festival for its
brilliant dialogue.
