In a Taiwanese version of the comedy video entitled “What Actually Happens When Gay Guys See Each Other Gay Guys And Straight People Aren’t Around,” which went viral went this year, comedy video purports to show how gay men really behave when there are no straight people around. Do you agree?
Making fun of ourselves is brave and may be entertaining, however this form of entertaining reinforces the stereo typing of gay men behave to the general public.
Imagine that this short video happens to be shown to a group of young children, yes, they may be laughing their head offs, but really, is it positive representation of gay men and gay community?
In my opinion, this is too easy, it is out of date and it is not positive entertaining. I am sure that the creator of this video can come up something more, which is high time for the gay community.
Fun, but if taken seriously, it reinforces the false stereotype.
I know straight guys who have varying degrees of effeminate mannerisms, from mild to quite strong. I know gay guys who are extremely effeminate, to not at all. We're not one dimensional.
But still, the clip is quite funny. Rainbow love to you all.
