I can never understand how people sometimes allow themselves to grow bitter with age. How they wrap themselves with skepticism, paint bitter pictures of the world in their minds, and then complain that everything is miserable.
Peranakans always seemed to know how to be happy. Even in tough times. We are really the opposite of the long-suffering and bitter characters portrayed in fictional media. We are actually happy and jolly as a culture. It is almost as if we have the secret to a joyful life.
But it is not really a secret. Joy lies in simplicity...
Live intensely. Give wholeheartedly. Learn to laugh a lot... at yourself, at others, at the world. Don't worry too much. Don't be afraid. Don't be afraid to love. Love more. Want less. That is the secret to a happy life. So simple, babies do it.
