Pratfall is an attempt to address the tension between reality and representation that exists within performance, by using the highly choreographed slapstick gag as a point of departure. The slapstick pratfall epitomises the dialectic of failure and improvement that exists within physical humour. However, in this proposition, the performer remains immobilised, unable or not wanting to proceed, subverting our desire for the expected outcome. The situation presented is the conclusion of a fictive event, and a proposition inspired by inactivity within the Theatre of the Absurd.
