Brush Strokes of Nature is a photographic series by Singapore artist Fong Qi Wei where he utilises floral and plant components, together with digital photography and post-processing as a combined medium, to create a different perspective on familiar themes.
In his “Exploded Flowers” series, flowers are painstakingly disassembled to show them in a different perspective. Through this, viewers will be able to better appreciate each petal, stamen and pistil's beauty, all of which are in effect a brush stroke of nature.
This theme is then brought to another level in the accompanying “Floral Paintings” series, where Qi Wei re-creates images resembling well-known paintings and drawings – but upon closer inspection, each stroke is revealed as a floral component. The use of photography freezes the beauty and intricacies of nature in the moment of full bloom, producing the impressions of depth in these works.
