Fawlty Towers is a British sitcom produced by the BBC and first broadcast in 1975 and 1979. Twelve episodes were made (two series, each of six episodes). The show was written by Monty Python's John Cleese and Connie Booth. In 2000, Fawlty Towers was voted "Best British Television series of all time" by the British Film Institute.
The play is set in Fawlty Towers, a fictional hotel in the seaside town of Torquay on the "English Rivera" (which, for this performance, we have relocated to Batu Ferrenghi, Penang.) The plots centre around tense, rude and put-upon owner Basil Fawlty, his bossy wife Sybil, a comparatively normal chambermaid Polly, and hapless Spanish waiter Manuel, and their attempts to run the hotel amidst farcical situations and an array of demanding and eccentric guests.
CLICK is delighted to be producing the Malaysian Premiere of Fawlty Towers (stage) for the Little Penang Street Market and PenangPAC in December 2012, as part of a Cultural Exchange focusing on promoting community integration through the creative and performing arts.
