Over 100 people arrested at 'depraved and decadent' party in Bahrain

Between 127 to nearly 200 people, differing figures provided by various local news reports, were arrested at a "depraved and decadent" party in the north of Bahrain over the weekend.

Dubai-based Gulfnews reported that 127 people "mainly gays from the Gulf countries" have been arrested for holding a "depraved and decadent" party. Bahrain's Gulf Daily News puts the number closer to 200.

Gulfnews said that the revellers hired a sports hall in Hidd, a conservative village on Muharraq island in the north of Bahrain, and organised on Wednesday evening a fee-paying party that brought together gay men from the Arabian Gulf countries. "An undercover agent paid the 20 dinar entrance fee and was allowed into the hall where he saw dozens of cross-dressers drinking and smoking shishas. More patrols were called in and 127 people were arrested in the police swoop, the daily said.

"Most of the gays were between 18 and 30 years old and one Lebanese and one Syrian were among those arrested following the police bust, Al Ayam daily reported on Friday."

Homosexuality is banned in Bahrain, like in the other five Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Foreigners arrested in relation to gay activities are deported after serving prison terms.

They must not have paid the police a high enough bribe!!!!

Wow I wish I could have met some of those lovely cross-dressers though I'd have to ask them to suck (peppermints) if they insisted on smoking their shisahs....

But on a more serious note....WAKE UP Bahrain....you have some of the sexiest gay people in the Gulf....loosen up..... ha ha

Homosexuality is not specified as illegal in Bahrain’s legal code but there are laws on morality.

Those detained were arrested on the charge of “conduct against public morals”

Homosexuality is not mentioned or banned in the Koran.

it amazes me the amount of self sabotage that goes on by gay men EVERY WHERE, they surely couldn't have been so naive to think they would escape the eagle eye of the islamic police.. I suggest people if they can go get good educations so they are sought after and easily employable so they can emigrate to more liberal countries.. vote with your feet guys if you can.. if you can't be more cautious and curb the self sabotage

There s nothing new in muslim country, even where i live in kuala lumpur, i witnessed how the polce raided the gay club more than 10 years ago when i was there one nite. They have no respect for us at all,as if two men kissing or dancing hand in hand could be sinner than the way they abused their power and being so corrupted

I agree with posts#5 and #7- seriously folks, it's the islamic police, you all know they have a certain reputation. Even heterosexual couples are not spared if 'caught' at the wrong place & wrong time.
And if you are a foreigner you'll be doubly screwed.
The best precaution in such places is to be careful and NEVER give them an excuse to use yr behavior against you!!
