Pastor Lawrence Khong is Being a Naughty Boy with Online Petitions Against Petitions Against Health Promotion Board and a Guide to Supporting Article 377A

Singapore Pastor and anti-gay activist Lawrence Khong has revealed himself as behind an online anti-gay petition to remove information from the Public Health Bureau’s website and is most likely responsible for a guide on how to support Article 377A, which also surfaced this week.

Paster Lawrence Khong has been making headlines this week as he continues his attempt to crackdown on homosexuality in Singapore. The founder of Faith Community Baptist Church and LoveSingapore movement once referred to the LGBT rights movement as the “onslaught of the evil one.”
Last week we reported that Singapore’s Health Promotion Board online FAQ described being gay as normal and had sparked petitions both for and against. The site states “Homosexuality and bisexuality are not mental illnesses. Studies show that sexual orientation has no bearing on mental health or emotional stability.”
It also explains that there is no way to change a person’s sexuality: “It is important to note that nothing someone encounters in life can ‘make’ one gay, lesbian or bisexual. Although events in life can help clarify gender identity and sexual orientation, sexual experience is not necessary to understand sexual orientation.”
Attention was only bought to the resource after an online petition to have the information removed was revealed.  This petition, founded by ‘Aaron’ states, “Following public moods, popular trends or making unsubstantiated statements will not help to bring clarity on the issue at all, nullifying the very purpose of the FAQ itself.”
A couple of weeks of accusations and many anti-gay comments on Khong’s facebook followed. In one of them he demanded a public enquiry to uncover who is responsible for an online brochure which “failed to warn the public of the high health risks associated with the homosexual lifestyle.”
At the weekend Khong revealed he was behind the online petition. He stated “do not remain silent. Let our voices be heard and sign the petition at gopetition.fcbc.org.sg to request the Minister for Health to conduct a thorough review of the information on HPB's website. We are aiming for at least 25,000 signatures so that our message is clearly heard.”
Meanwhile, a guide entitled “family.foundation.future SUPPORT 377A, a simple guide to giving feedback” which is believed to be addressed to pastors and leaders under the Love Singapore movement, has been leaked and is being shared on social media.
The guide is believed to be written by Lawrence Khong: The contact email addresses provided in the guide are to persons working in LoveSingapore, the movement chaired by Khong
In the guide, Khong urges the church to take action against the possible repealing of Section 377A, noting that the potential legalization of homosexuality would have a “negative impact on the moral future of Singapore,” especially if the church remains part of “the silent majority”.
Khong goes on to say “Repealing 377A will, in effect, decriminalise sodomy or legalise homosexual acts. This will lead to the legalisation of same-sex marriage down the road. We must unite to keep 377A intact as the moral norm, the law of the land.”
“The voice of the LGBT is growing louder. If they succeed in repealing 377A, this will lead to a loss of religious freedom as seen in other countries. Out goes religious harmony, something so unique to Singapore. It’s crazy. We build with one hand and destroy with the other. Do the right thing, 377A must stay!”
The guide outlines a number of ways to register “unwavering support” for Secion 377A. These include a Facebook status update with the statement, “I support 377A” and liking any pro-Section 377A Facebook comments online.
The pastor of the megachurch also urges the church to write to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, cabinet members and feedback unit REACH about their support of Section 377A. The guide details the contact addresses of the Prime Minister and MPs.
The guide goes so far to give detailed suggestions on how to express distaste for homosexuality. Quotes to use include: "I have homosexual friends. I do not discriminate against them. I care about them. But I do not support their alternative lifestyles.” And "I wish to register my point of view that gay and lesbian behaviour is unnatural. Same sex marriage is wrong. It must not become the norm in Singapore."
Khong at least seems aware that his comments are contentious and states that the guide is not for mass distribution as “not every person will be sympathetic.”

This is the way to spread hatred . If you believe in the Jesus of the bible you would know that his only commandment was to "Love one another as I have loved you". This being his summary of Gods ten commandments.

Why do many "Catholics" seem to miss this simple and most important point? A priest should know this commandment better than most. What is really going on in his mind? Is he afraid of something? Does he have an evil agenda ?

Personally I believe most organised religions are used as a vehicle for peoples own political gains often at the expense of other people.

Kudos to HPB's action to bring the nation to First World's societal maturity actually. Singapore has ALWAYS been true to harmony, NOT such extreme religious bigotry for sure! Singaporeans at heart are accepting with an open mind to seek understanding and appreciation, starting with simple thing like LOVE and one's right to love whom they chose.

Why don't media give more airplay to Buddhist openness and acceptance? I dunno why but I seem to smell stench of conspiracy by media to keep giving spotlights to such distasteful entities that only seems to endanger and jeopardize the nation's long term growth more like.

If he can't preach that, he should continue his magical illusion acts in casino scene, please. And if he really, really want to do God's work, please put in efforts on the other pressing issues that threatens the nation's fibre like justice, corruptions and accountability. Those lifestyles are even more putrid than simply picking on the marginalised and misunderstood minorities. What kind of pastor is this? Who is your Jesus Christ? A bully?

Lawrence Khong has sold his soul to something else for sure..

what happened to me in my life to make me gay was: I WAS BORN THAT WAY!
There was a time when left handed people were burned at the stake
Why is this pastor so bothered what people do consensually in the privacy of their own bedrooms?
He thinks gay marriage is wrong- wrong for you, Pastor, nobody holding a gun to your head making you marry a man.
I guess he might well think abortion is also evil, in which case- DON'T HAVE ONE! Women were being beaten til they miscarried or thrown down the stairs to induce the same, & in the absence of legalized safe abortion, who knows how women might mutilate themselves and put their own lives at risk for not getting medically sound terminations.
101st Ganden Tripa, the Supreme Head of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) School of Buddhism, when quizzed about homosexuality, just said- "it's sexual activity, no more, no less" and as such, provided it's consensual it's fine.
Pastor claims to speak for Jesus? When Jesus remained silent on the issue of homosexuality? Hung around with 12 men & an ex hooker? Regularly socialized with the "outcasts" of society?
Pastor- you're a hypocrite & a coward, your homophobia shows ignorance and fear, perhaps the Pastor doth protest too much?
In my experience the most vociferous homophobes are the ones with quite clearly unresolved issues surrounding their own masculinity and sexuality that they feel so threatened as to what complete and total perfect strangers do in their own homes. Tiny minded little man, I pity you, every syllable of your hatred only stokes the fires of thr Hell you are creating for yourself.

1. You must know what is mental illness
2. Mental illness is people who do not care to other
But Many Politicians issues mental illness to satisfy their greedy of power and money
3. People who care to other mean faith to God as Order of God was Human created to care to other and all world content
4. At past, One man could not take care the world alone, so that, there was obligation to breed as many as possible, as my parents having 10 children.
5. But, Now days, There have been to many people, resulting war, disaster, lie, libel, murder, Hate, destroy, discrimination, etc
These are full of Sin and extra ordinary Sin.
6. So, The obligation now should be reduce population, reduce breeding.
7. Then Breeding/Birth can be regarded as mental disorder now
Because those people do not care to the world
8. I want to See Tradition that is Gladiator
9. I want to See every PM /president/ Politician/ Leaders to fight each other in gladiator Ring/Arena with swords and many kinds of weapon.
Lets civil society watching, who is the strongest, who is The winner.
That is Tradition

Pastor Lawrence is essentially striving for a 100% Christian Singapore - not that there is anything inherently abnormal about a religion seeking new converts, but his methods are to cajole and intimidate rather than persuade or lead by example.

Funny how he hides behind aliases and remained rather dodgy and evasive about the extent of his role in all this until now, like he has something to hide or thinks he is above integrity and it is okay to be surreptious and insidious in the name of dispensing 'morals'.

And then of course there was his coarse treatment of a church employee who was caught for adultery (no compassion or grace), but shielded his daughter from criticism in light of her premartial pregnancy. He's a walking double-standard.

Generally very UN-Christian behaviour...

Arguing with idiots like this guy is like playing chess with a pigeon -

Khong simply assumes that a vast majority gays are promiscuous beings with extremely high risk of diseases. He ignores the fornication & adultery that is so rampant among straights.

I am flabbergasted by his statement:

"
...If they succeed in repealing 377A, this will lead to a loss of religious freedom as seen in other countries.
..."

What has extending basic freedom (from prosecution) to all (in this case gays) got to do with religious freedom? And which are the countries that took away religious freedom is he alluding to? Recently, countries like US, France granted the right of marriage to gays, how has the freedom to practise one's religion been sacrificed? It makes no sense.

It's disingenious and dangerous to try to link religions to 377A, which was enacted by the British. He is making use of the sensitivity of religions in Singapore to serve his intentions, logic be damned. He should be given a public rebuke by the govt to stop playing with fire.

And then there is this suspicion... such fervent public opposition to homosexuality...

If by " homosexual lifestyle", he means multiple sexual partners and dangerous sexual acts, he is right to point out "the high health risks associated". But then the risks are not limited to homosexual acts but extended to heterosexual as well. So he is okay with what is going on the east of singapore (you-know-where)? Why isn't he championing for "the silent majority"? It's strange that he is not taking action against something already happening but instead getting into this pro-377A campaign (which from the look of things will not be repealed anytime soon?)? Hmmm...suspicion...

Keeping fighting. I believe someday Singaporeans will enjoy the freedom like many countries that accept gay marriage.

MAKE 377A HISTORY !

Perhaps he could make a reasoned argument instead of a self promoting rant which goes against the fundamental principles of his religion of a loving God.

There is a good article at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26089486 which summarizes current scientific thinking - somewhat more valid and fun 'proof' that hell can no longer exist from a student's exam answer. http://www.quickmeme.com/p/3vr3nn

"LoveSg"????? what a JOKE. He & his ilk are hardly the poster boys for 'love thy neighbor'.. more like "HateSg".

At the end of the day, Khong & Islamic Terrorists are no different. They have committed an even graver error of projecting their own ignorance, bigotry, fear-mongering, prejudices & exclusivity onto God, & making God out in their own image & likeness. In fact, Khong has breached the 1st Commandment of not worshipping false gods. His self righteousness is on par with the Pharisees in Jesus' time.
16. 2014-02-19 16:47
Religion is supposed to promote love, peace, tolerance and compassion for each other. If what you are observing or practising doesn't then it is not a religion.

Being a "leader" in religion doesn't give you the godly right to belittle and ostracise other fellow God's creations particularly the minority. Once your heart is filled with so much hatred for others, you can never be with GOD!

So pastor, you are going off track. For god sake, read the basics that resonate in the bible again and again...its LOVE pastor and as God's servant show more compassion in His work!

In short, what this pastor is saying, 'I do not discriminate against you; I care about you BUT you do not have the same right as mine because I don't like your lifestyle.' Is it the LOVE of GOD ? Give me a break!

This is totally hypocrite.

This is i guess HIS way of climbing the ladder (not to heaven) to his own popularity game plan with the media as well as the simple minded ignoramus population that we live amongst. I say, live your life free of hatred and sin and the doors of EDEN will open upon your approach even if your LGBT. Amen.
