Former Miss Universe to help honour HIV & LGBT Heroes at Bangkok Charity Fundraising gala on November 22nd.

UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific and former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach is set to co-host this year’s Asia Pacific HERO Awards gala in Bangkok which will honour a diverse and inspirational mix of activists, allies and organisations from across Asia and the Pacific.

Standing for HIV, Equality and Rights, the HERO Awards is an annual event which acknowledges outstanding service to the HIV response in Asia and the Pacific, and to the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities.

Taking place at the Ambassador’s residence at the Netherlands Embassy in central Bangkok on November 22nd, the event is also a fundraiser for the Bangkok-based APCOM Foundation, a leading NGO which works to fight HIV and advance LGBTI health and rights across the Asia Pacific region. The Awards are being supported by a range of corporate sponsors, community organisations and diplomatic missions.
APCOM Executive Director Midnight Poonkasetwattana: “We’re thrilled that Ms Wurtzbach will be taking part in this year’s HERO Awards. She’s an outstanding advocate for LGBTI rights and communities affected by HIV across the Asia Pacific region and was in fact a finalist in the first ever HERO Awards in 2017. We’re looking forward to welcoming her to Bangkok to honour our HIV and LGBTI heroes.”

“Everyday heroes from right across the Asia Pacific region are doing extraordinary work in their local communities to help improve the lives of others. The HERO Awards provides a wonderful opportunity in the lead up to World AIDS Day and International Human Rights Day to shine a light on some of these community champions as well as the issues to which they’re responding. I am very honoured to be a part of APCOM's HERO Awards this year to highlight issues at the regional level that the struggle is not over, and the communities need the support now more than ever in particular for their sustainability”, remarked Miss Pia Wurtzbach.

Up to 400 guests will gather in the grand and historic Ambassador’s residence at the Netherlands Embassy in the heart of Bangkok for an inspirational awards ceremony and fabulously fun cocktail reception with delicious canapes accompanied by fine wines and premium beer. There’ll be great live entertainment from singers, musicians and performers as well as an exciting fundraising auction with holidays, fashion, art and dining up for grabs at bargain prices.

The 32 finalists across eight categories will be announced in November.
