Watch: Being Trans in Vietnam

‘I remember my parents tried to put me in a dress, but I didn’t like it, so they were fine with me just wearing shorts. They raised me right,’ says Chau Minh Vu.

Chau Minh Vu is a trans guy from Hanoi and told Not Only Voices he never faced direct discrimination in school and believes everybody has the right to the express who they really are.

A few years ago, he became familiar with the concept of trans identities via an online forum, which made him more self-aware through the realization that the assigned sex at birth does not necessarily match with the way one feels.
