Responsible for hits like YMCA, Macho Man and In the Navy, the group featured singers made up as popular masculine archetypes-cowboy, Indian, construction worker, policeman and soldier.

The 50-year-old was known for his deep voice, leather-and-chain outfits and handlebar moustache. He also appeared in the 1980 film Can't Stop the Music with his bandmates.

At his request, he was buried in his leatherman outfit.
