madonna world tour to hit US, europe and japan

Madonna will begin her latest and much anticipated world tour in Los Angeles on May 21. The Material Girl whose latest album Confessions on a Dance Floor debuted at No.1 in 29 countries, has also been nominated for Favourite Female Artist at the 2006 MTV Asia Awards.

Superstar Madonna has confirmed she will start her world tour in Los Angeles on May 21 followed by various North Amercian cities including Chicago, Boston, Montreal and New York before crossing the Atlantic to Europe and finally to Osaka and Tokyo in Japan.

Madonna has been nominated for Favourite Female alongside Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Lindsay Lohan and Mariah Carey at the fifth annual MTV Asia Awards to be held in Bangkok on May 6. Fans can vote (registration required) at www.mtvasiaawards.com.
Confessions tour dates were officially confirmed by Madonna managers Angela Becker and Guy Oseary, along with Arthur Fogel, President of The Next Adventure, the tours worldwide promoter.

Considered by many to be the Number 1 Gay Icon, her first stop in Europe is scheduled for July 30 at Cardiff Millenium Stadium followed by 2 nights at London's Wembley Arena (Aug 1 and 3) and will include venues in Paris, France; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Rome, Italy; Dusseldorf and Hannover Germany; Horsens, Denmark. The press release however did not indicate Tokyo and Osaka concerts dates.

The Confessions Tour will be directed by longtime Madonna collaborator Jamie King with Stuart Price once again on board as Musical Director. Arianne Phillips and Jean Paul Gaultier, long standing members of Madonna's creative team, will respectively oversee and design costumes for the tour.

Madonna's previous tour, the 2004 Re-Invention Tour was the most successful tour of that year, according to Billboard Magazine.

With international record sales of over 200 million albums and a staggering 35 No. 1 hits on Billboard dance charts during the course of her unparalleled career, it's no surprise that Madonna issued the following mission statement regarding the Confessions Tour: "I'm going to turn the world into one big dance floor."

The 47-year-old multi-Grammy Award winning artist, songwriter and children's book author will warm up for the new tour with a previously announced April 30 date at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in southern California, the first festival appearance of her career.
