Hong Kong’s Gigi Chao named world’s top LGBT executive

For the first time, OUTstanding and the Financial Times have named someone from Asia as their most influential LGBT executive - Gigi Chao

Gigi Chao, vice-chairman of Cheuk Nang Holdings, a Hong Kong-listed property developer,  was named top LGBT executive of the 2016 OUTstanding and FT LGBT rankings.

She is the first lesbian, and the first person from Asia to be awarded the title.

Chao is one of the biggest campaigners for LGBT rights in Hong Kong,  she is a founding member of Big Love Alliance and an ambassador for AIDS Concern. She also helps organise the city’s largest LGBT event, Pink Dot HK.

Chao made headlines in 2012 when her father offered US$ 65m to any potential suitor for his lesbian daughter. Chao is in a long-term relationship with Sean Eav and married her partner in 2012.

In an open letter to her father in the South China Morning Post at the time she said “In terms of relationships, your expectations of me and the reality of who I am, are not coherent.”

“I am comfortable and satisfied with my life and completely at ease with [Eav]”

Other executives in the top ten include Inga Beale, CEO of Lloyds of London; Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas; and Martine Rothblatt, CEO of United Therapeutics.

Just how do they judge who is most influential? Ultimately it has to be subjective.

And why does Alan Joyce (Qantas) come up under Aerospace & Defence, and not Aviation?

Rather weird.

Sigh. For someone who portrays himself as sooo smart, GTiLad constantly shows his ignorance. Aerospace is defined as the atmosphere and the space beyond. They are considered a whole.
I'm sure there is some criteria used to pick a person for this honor. That you don't know or understand what that is surely isn't the problem of Finacial Times nor OUTstanding. My suggestion for your edification in this area would be to visit the OUTstanding website and read for yourself why she was chosen.

Congrats to Ms Chao and all 99 other recipients of this year's award. Thank you for all you do for our community.

Americanbear clearly doesn't realise what aviation is. He's probably never heard of Venn diagrams either.

Let's just thank everyone that contributes to equality for all, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, age, religion, etc.
