Shutter

Language: Thai with English subtitles

Starring: Ananda Everingham, Natthaweeranuch Thongmee

Screening: 2004-11-16

If you've been to Golden Village theatres lately, then you've probably
seen a collage of creepy photos on a cardboard standee for GV's
new Thai film Shutter.

Each photo has an unexplained ghostly image, which have not been
doctored — or so they claim. Well, we're pleased to say that
the movie is as spooky as those photos.

This well-executed horror movie tells the story of photographer
Tun and his girlfriend who, while driving, run over a woman walking
on the road. The couple leave the dead woman and drive off. But
soon after, Tun begins to see mysterious slivers of light in the
photos he shoots...

Director Pakpoom Wongpoom does a good job of keeping the tension
up. Even though the film's long-haired female ghost is no different
from any other Asian spook found in Ringu or Ju-On,
Pakpoom certainly knows how to build up suspense and distribute
the scares wisely throughout the movie until its dramatic finale.

PS: See the spooky photos online at www.shuttermovie.com.
Just click on "Back to Shutter website" on the bottom left where
you'll find an English-language menu. Select "Spiritual photography",
and then "Photo Gallery". "Fun stuff" is also creepy.
