36

Original Title: 36 Quai des Orfèvres

Director: Olivier Marchal

Language: French with English subtitles

Starring: Gerard Depardieu, Daniel Auteuil, Valeria Golino

Screening: 2005-08-16

Alright, alright… if you "Must Hate Dogs" or the Singapore film
industry, catch the slickest and most exciting action film opening
this week — the French police thriller, 36.

Garnering eight Cesar nominations (French version of the Oscars)
this year, it stars great French actors Gerard Depardieu and Daniel
Auteuil as two rival police officers who are trying to beat each
other at arresting the criminals responsible for a string of armoured
car robberies.

Directed and co-written by ex-police officer Olivier Marchal, 36
pulses with superbly choreographed action sequences, solid characters
and ultra-cool cinematography. A film that brims with spunk and
style (though the ending is a little pat), 36 is everything
you'd want from a cops-and-robbers show.

Love action movies, but hate reading subtitles? Well, now's the
time to start...
