The Skeleton Key

Director: Iain Softley

Starring: Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands, John Hurt

Screening: 2005-10-11

You girls might want to watch this horror movie for the simple
fact that Kate Hudson walks around in her underwear two-thirds of
the time?

Kate plays a hospice worker who has been hired to care for an invalid
(John Hurt) at a big 'ole spooky house. She notices weird things,
such as the locked attic and the trail of red powder around the
house. Instead of running away though, she sticks around for the
opportunity to be scared silly.

She gets what she wants, but we don't really get what we want —
which is, truly visceral scares we'd remember long after the credits
roll. This run-of-the-mill hoodoo movie has its share of interesting
superstitions, totems and other mystical objects. But ultimately,
the plot is as flat as Kate's stomach and the characters as thin
as her arms.
