Out in Hong Kong: The city’s Hottest Hotels

Accommodation abound in the Pearl of Asia. Though with space a premium in the city its important to make a wise choice about where to spend the night. We highlight three of the best.

Hotel Icon

Hotel Icon is handily located in Tsim Sha Tsui close to the world-renowned Victoria Harbour with the city’s glittering skyline. It’s proximity to Kowloon Airport Express station make it a great option for visitors looking for convenience as well as comfort.

Design lovers are sure to be impressed, the severe glass and steel building that reaches 28 floors is designed by local architect Rocco Yim. Inside William Lim has explored the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang and circular themes. A fantastic inside-outside feeling is fostered by Asia’s largest vertical indoor garden in the lobby.

The rooms are all spacious and offer fantastic views of the city and harbour with chic design details. The outdoor pool and gym on the ninth floor let you work out with a view

There are no less than three restaurants. The Market lets you experience the freneticism of Asia’s street food culture without leaving the four walls of the hotel. Chefs from around the world tempt you with culinary favourites in the internal courtyard. However, Chinese fine dining Above & Beyond is our hot pick—the perfect place for a lazy and indulgent Sunday dim sum.

Looking to splash out? The signature penthouse suite is designed by Hong Kong’s home-grown fashion designer, Vivienne Tam and features bespoke artwork and Chinese antiques.

W Hotel

Bright, dazzling and a little bit brash, the W is the place to check in for a week of fabulously fashionable parties and indulgence. Placed amid the up and coming West Kowloon cultural district the hotel has evolved as the destination for visiting glitteratis to tap into the city’s vibrancy.

The 393 rooms are all decked out in an up-to-the-minute style sure to make even the greatest fashionista question their outfit for a second or two. It’s no wonder Madonna stayed here last time she was in town.

The hotel’s WOOBAR is the perfect place to begin a night on Hong Kong’s world famous tiles.  The bespoke cocktails will go down easily to electronic tunes mixed by exceptional rising star DJs.

Their summer pool parties are infamous—pack a pair of speedos.

Ovolo Noho

Ovolo may have just mastered Hong Kong’s space problem with their small but perfectly formed rooms. The rooms pack an awful lot into a small space: a double bed, shower-room, desk, wardrobe and Apple TV. They are also reasonably priced.

The hotel is also perfectly located in the uber-trendy Noho (North of Hollywood Road) district. Just above the hotel is the historic Man Mo temple and a warren of alleys offering antiques (don’t forget to haggle).

More importantly, design shops, trendy coffee shops and artsy-bars are just a stone’s throw from Ovolo Noho. We recommend Oldish for a breakfast served in enamel trays and Ping Pong for a totally hip gin experience—there’s well over 50 types of gin and offer and almost an equal number of tonics.

Yes, this is the perfect hotel for all you hipsters out there.
