A queer art exhibition to take a friend to in Cairns

Surface Tension explores the impressions people leave on each other. The Cairns Pride exhibition is in its final days at Tank 4 Gallery.

Some conversations linger long after the other person has left. Surface Tension, the Cairns Pride exhibition at Tanks Arts Centre, takes the traces people leave on one another as its starting point. It runs until 31 October.

Inspired by the festival’s Reflections theme, the exhibition looks at encounters and the way their meaning can shift with time and perspective. The venue describes a gathering of work by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Intersex, queer, Sistergirl and Brotherboy artists.

The venue’s exhibition page names Charles Pritchard’s acrylic work 3 to 1.

If you’re visiting with a friend, try choosing a work separately before comparing notes. You might each notice a different detail, or want to spend time with entirely different pieces.

Tank 4 Gallery entry is free, with no ticket required. Its advertised hours are 9am–4.30pm on weekdays and 10am–2pm at weekends, local time. Check the venue’s current listing before setting out. The show opened on 10 October, so these are its final few days.
