Islamist group storms transgender human rights workshop in West Java

Just a month after crashing the ILGA Asia conference in Surabaya, members of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI)  forced their way past police and stormed a human rights training program intended for transgender individuals at a hotel in Depok, West Java last Friday.

activists dissolved the program last Friday.

Dozens of members of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) stormed a human rights training program intended for transgender individuals at a hotel in Depok, West Java, on Friday.

The program, organized by the National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM), had just begun when dozens of FPI members forced their way (past police) into the room.

Nancy Iskandar, a participant, said after a coffee break at around 10:30 a.m, a number of police officers had come into the room.

The committee had then asked participants to take a snack break in the training room.

“Several people then suddenly banged on the door and shouted the name of God,” she said.

Nancy, who is also the head of the Transgender Communication Forum, said the group verbally assaulted participants disgracefully.

The commission immediately moved the participants to its headquarters in Menteng, Central Jakarta, in the afternoon to ensure their safety.

And I'll stick to my religious motto when I bang on their doors: FUCK RELIGION.

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than be a Muslim, Christian or Jew. Three hateful religions with their hateful laws and a hateful bigoted god... It's all your fault Abraham and Moses! If only you had taken the medication to control your schizophrenia... this world would be a much more loving and peaceful place today.

Anteos: some people don't have the means to go to Bali. Depok was more accessible for them, I think, since many transsexuals live there.

euro-asian, you come from a mix of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, are good-looking and articulate. Yet, as much as I like your pedigree, I disagree with your point of view. The last I checked, on Google and Wikipedia, your ancestors have engaged in wars and/or colonization and/or slave trading, with the Chinese, the Anglo-Americans, the English and the Dutch being the most ruthless of them and none of these mass killings and/or subjugation of fellow humans beings had anything to do with religion. Would the world be better off without them, without me and you?
