Officials of the Russian Embassy in Singapore have refused to accept a petition signed by 200 members of the LGBT community and their allies when four activists visited their premises on Friday morning, say petition organisers.
The International Olympic Committee has been asked to clarify its recent comments that it will punish athletes who stand up for gay rights in Russia following the Interior Ministry's confirmation that openly gay people attending the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics will be arrested under the country’s draconian new anti-gay law.
Ten publicly out gay and lesbian athletes have won medals at the Olympic Games in London, reports SBNation, a network of online sports communities. It added that the argument against coming out as it will negatively affect an athlete's performance doesn't hold as over 43% of the out athletes (10 of the 23) won a medal at the Games.
