Wonder cube: Paco

Japanese architects Jo Nagasaka and Schemata architecture office have designed a house contained in a three metre cube. What a packaging marvel!

An average US prison cell is said to be at 2.4 metre in width, 2.4 metre in height and 3.6 metre in length. Paco, a collaboration effort between Schemata architecture office and Jo Nagaska is simply a packaging marvel as it measures at three metre in all dimensions.

This three metre cube wonder has a hinged roof that allows can be opened. Inside, it contains a hammock, a desk, a sink, a shower, a guest bed and even a toilet bowl. In short, this conceptual model serves as a possible self-contained living area for one and even an occasional guest. Both the desk and the toilet are hidden underneath the floor. Also, the shower curtain can be kept into a neat umbrella when not in use. And there appears to be an entire possibility of placing necessary household appliances within the Paco.

The architects involved in this project wanted Paco to serve as lifestyle companion, as it adapts easily among different environments. As suggested by the pictures; within a house, within a factory, by the sea and lastly, by the mountain.

Here's some more information from Schemata Architecture Office:

PACO is...

Box of 3m x 3m x 3m cube.

And the roof open.

It has theminimum equipments to live in spite of all its size.

We produced it as a conceptual model to imagine a new life style.

house + paco
factory + paco
sea + paco
mountain + paco

Depends on the combination,it describes different life style and landscape.

PACO...

We want to make it independence by a simple substance. We need the technical skill of infrastructure free.It is possible in thefield of technical skill, but it is not practical at this time. First of all,we present our vision as a designer in order to cover the gap.

I would kill myself if I lived here... it is absolutly terrible design. Sleeping in a hole and studying facing a wall? A new concept doesn't mean we have to live a box. Now the only good thing about this is the nice butt in the shower. LOL
